Shannon Powell is the Senior Trade and Investment Commissioner and Deputy Consul-General (Commercial) Hong Kong and Macau, for the Australian Government’s Trade and Investment Promotion Agency (Austrade). She took up the role in January of 2020 and was previously posted in Santiago, Chile with responsibility for Chile, Argentina, Peru and Colombia.

Shannon started her career in law, working for large Australian law firms as a corporate lawyer. Subsequently, she led global teams in strategy and operations in both the private and not-for-profit sectors, achieving successful trade and investment outcomes for many large Australian and global companies and institutions. She was for almost a decade the General Manager of the Global Foundation, a not-for-profit organisation aimed at strengthening Australia’s sustainable economic development through business facilitation in the areas of mining, renewable energy, financial services, education, agribusiness and manufacturing.

Shannon continues to sit on the Advisory Board of the Global Foundation and is an ex-officio Board Director of AustCham, Hong Kong.
