NATALIA PAVANELLI

WANDWOODS

Natalia is a Brazilian-Canadian designer with an all-out passion for sustainability, fashion, and textile design. With a BA in Industrial Design, a diploma in Fashion Design, and 11 years of experience in the fashion industry, she is finally ready to take my place in the Sustainable Fashion Market through the Cottagecore Aesthetic.

Natalia was born in Brazil, but she started traveling very young. She spent her childhood in Germany and Spain, followed by a work experience in France. These experiences have taught her to embrace new cultures. her passion for History, Art, and Vintage grew through the years, with a British and European eye and personality. However, it was only two years ago, after five years of living in Canada, that she discovered Cottagecore.

Discovering this community has switched her mindset. It was a switch off from stress and a switch in the way she used to consume, the way she saw life, with an English-Vintage aesthetic that brings the calmness of a Monet painting. At that moment, she decided to create Wandwoods, a brand that advocates for a more sustainable, calm, and romantic way of life here in North America.

DEBBIE LEUNG

DEBBIE LEUNG

HANDMADE BY DEBBIE LEUNG

Debbie’s intense passion in design and hand craft have compelled her to take a sharp turn in her career and became a full-time artist two decades ago. She has been experimenting with different media in her artwork. It includes mosaic, pottery, glass and fibre.

Lately he focus is on fibre both in 2D and 3D form with sustainable practice. Fibre is an exquisite medium for self-expression. Regardless of its origin, be it from nature or from high tech innovation, it is there for us to improve our lives both functionally and aesthetically. It is the application and affinity aspects of this medium that appeals to me enormously.

By bringing back reminiscence of how our artisan ancestors made things from accessible natural resources with their bare hands, we can uncover our roots and take a different perspective of ourselves and our surroundings.

Debbie’s work has been exhibited and collected around the world. She custom makes art wearables for individual clients as well as create decorative pieces for commercial organizations, fashion shows and exhibitions. Apart from teaching in design colleges in Hong Kong, she has been a visiting lecturer in The Central Academy of Fine Arts (中國中央美術學院), China Fashion Designers’ Association, Penland School of Crafts (U.S.), University of South Queensland. She has also worked as art consultant for hotel chains and curated art exhibitions.

Debbie’s most recent project involves reviving our traditional dress “cheongsam” which is one of the national intangible cultural heritages.

Karen Chan, JP is the Founder, Creative Director & Chief Fashion Designer of modern glamorous designer brands SPARKLE COLLECTION and SPARKLE BY KAREN CHAN. Born and raised in Hong Kong and having studied and lived in US and Canada for 15 years, Karen has a deep appreciation for both Chinese and Western art and culture, with a special passion for HK culture and the iconic cheongsam.

Karen apprenticed under the legendary Intangible Cultural Heritage Inheritor Master Fung Yau Choi in the art of making cheongsam and Tang jacket, and designs funky modern cheongsams and Tang jackets which keep the intricate Chinese craftsmanship but infused with Western design concepts like patterns, fabrics and wearability, injecting new life and game-changing ideas into this priceless national heritage.

Under Karen’s insightful leadership, Sparkle Collection has blossomed into a well-known high fashion lifestyle brand in the short span of 4 years since establishment. Karen’s [PEONY] cheongsam is on permanent display in the world-class China National Silk Museum, and SPARKLE’s audacious and avant-garde interpretation of the cheongsam has won the brand the prestigious invitation to participate in HK Fashion Week’s most influential CENTRESTAGE fashion show four years in a row. The prestigious Chinese Arts & Crafts Co. Ltd. also chose SPARKLE as their exclusive designer fashion brand to carry.

Aside from her innate talent in fashion design, Karen’s contribution to society is also well recognized. Besides being appointed as Justice of the Peace (JP), Karen received an Honorary Fellowship from the Vocational Training Council, is an appointed Council Member of Hong Kong Polytechnic University and an Adjunct Professor of Hong Kong Baptist University. Karen also received numerous accolades over the years, including JESSICA Most Successful Women Award, GBA Outstanding Women Entrepreneur Award, Ten Outstanding Young Persons Award, APEC Young Women Innovator Award, FHKI’s Young Industrialist Award and Outstanding Women Professionals & Entrepreneurs Award to name a few.

OLIVEANKARA

Born and raised in Venice, Italy, Ify’s love for African fashion blossomed early in childhood, for which her Nigerian family takes most of the credit. Within a tight-knit African community in Italy, she was exposed to the many facets of West African culture, from its traditions and folklore to the meaning behind its vibrant colours.

Before starting OliveAnkara, she completed her studies with a PhD in Human Molecular Genetics at the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology, she first moved to Singapore to further her career with a Post Doctorate in Molecular Carcinogenesis at the National Cancer Centre.

Her move into the fashion industry started when she noticed the absence of African culture in Singapore while trying to source African prints to make her wedding dress. She took on the responsibility of bridging this gap with the creation of OliveAnkara in 2017, which also rekindled her love for fashion. It was not until 2019, buoyed by early successes and a growing loyal base of customers, that Ify turned her passion side hustle into a full-time career.

Driven by passion and her love for diverse cultures, Ify has centred her slow fashion sustainable brand around two core values: female empowerment and sustainability.
